Bolted together
In a residential tower on the ‘Zuidas’ in Amsterdam, we have connected two levels with a staircase. Since the stage is placed in the middle of the living room it had to be of the same high design standard as the rest of house.
The steel staircase could not get into the house as a whole so is brought in into parts. Everything is bolted together, which gives a beautiful, rough look. The outer stringer passes a window and is kept low, the inner stringer is high for safety and this way the lines of the staircase come out beautifully.
In order to distribute the pressure off the stage, there is a base plate installed in the cement screed. Later this beautiful cast floor got over. We then put the stairs on the screed at the base plate. This way there are no visible connections towards the floor.
