Multifunctional stairwell

For the new headquarters of ‘de Bijenkorf’, we created five huge landing stairs.

The stairwell is multifunctional and really part of the different office spaces on the floors. This because we also created kitchens, sitting areas and meeting places within the staircases. The integration of planters and green gives the area a natural effect.

The linoleum on the floors runs through in the stairwell and that provides a nice contrast with the darkly oiled wood and the powder-coated steel fencing.

These staircases are made of rubberwood. The most ecological and sustainable wood that exists in today’s logging industry.

Rubberwood is a waste product from exhausted rubber trees that are usually on large plantations in Southeast Asia. Instead of being burned, we turn it into stairs, a very environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative.
